Nabriva Therapeutics is one of the few companies in recent years innovative enough to embark upon developing a new class of antibiotics: pleuromutilins. These unique antimicrobial compounds interfere with bacterial protein synthesis via a specific interaction with the 23S rRNA of the 50S bacterial ribosome subunit. These compounds offer a distinct profile and show no cross-resistance with any other class of antibiotics. Nabriva’s world class medicinal chemistry expertise achieved, for the very first time, the development of parenterally & orally available pleuromutilins clearing the way for IV to oral step-down therapy. This achievement constitutes a very significant milestone in providing appropriate medication for the combat against life-threatening bacterial infections.
Nabriva’s two systemic products, BC-3205 and BC-3781, are being developed for both oral and IV administration with extensive phase I data becoming available during 2009. The Company also has a Phase I non-systemic pleuromutilin product candidate, BC-7013.
